Associate Scientist - Materials Engineer

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Materials Engineer to manage material selection, processing, characterization, and testing for aerospace and propulsion systems. The candidate will be responsible for material evaluation, compatibility testing, failure analysis, and process optimization to ensure material reliability and performance.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Support development and optimization of metallic, ceramic, polymer, and composite materials used in propulsion systems.

• Evaluate materials for compatibility with propellants, oxidizers, fuels, and coatings.

• Assist in selection of materials based on thermal, mechanical, chemical, and environmental requirements.

• Support material processing routes such as casting, powder metallurgy, sintering, coating, bonding, and heat treatment.

• Perform and interpret material characterization including SEM/EDS, XRD, FTIR, DSC/TGA, hardness, density, and basic mechanical tests.

• Support thermal cycling, aging, corrosion, erosion, and compatibility studies.

• Assist in root cause analysis of material or component failures.

• Recommend material or process improvements based on findings.

• Work closely with propulsion, chemical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.

• Conduct literature reviews and benchmarking of advanced aerospace materials and coatings.

Requirements

• B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Material Science Engineering or a related discipline.

• 2+ years of experience in aerospace material selection, metals, alloys, polymers, composites, corrosion, passivation and chemical compatibility testing.

• Knowledge of SEM-EDS, XRD, FTIR, DSC-TGA, failure analysis, material qualification and technical documentation.
