The Company
Oxford Space Systems develops innovative deployable antennas for Space. Our aim is to be the global leader in this field, providing effective solutions today for the space-based services of the future. We are leveraging innovations from beyond the space sector to make our antennas smaller, lighter and cheaper than traditional designs.
This is an exciting time to join us as we scale up for the future, having already delivered multiple systems for operational satellites with in-orbit deployment success, and significant investment in our facilities with a state-of-the-art head office at Harwell and a bespoke manufacturing facility in Abingdon.
The Role
It’s an exciting time at OSS as we continue to work on new product opportunities and establish flight model product lines. To support that effort, and as our business grows, we are looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer with a focus on design. Experience in another discipline, such as testing or analysis, would be an added benefit.
As a Mechanical Engineer at Oxford Space Systems, you will contribute to the design and development of our innovative antennas. Your responsibilities may include:
- Designing and developing mechanisms and structures, supporting design reviews and demonstrating performance across anticipated operating conditions.
- Working with internal and external customers and stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges and deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Supporting the build, integration and testing of new designs and concepts, including developing test plans, analysing results and presenting findings.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, assembly, integration, test, procurement and external suppliers, to support successful project delivery.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce cost, risk and lead time while driving continuous improvement across products and processes.
- Supporting project planning, technical documentation, configuration management, bids and proposals, supplier engagement and the integration of new technologies.
You will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent, in an engineering or scientific discipline, with experience working in a highly regulated environment, ideally within the space or aerospace sectors. You will have a good understanding of at least one relevant engineering discipline, such as mechanical, thermal, electrical systems or systems engineering, alongside familiarity with areas such as mechanisms, gears, motors or aerospace composites.
You will be a proactive team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, ability to gain UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously, collaborate effectively and manage competing priorities to meet project deadlines.
If you have the relevant skills and experience, are proactive, resourceful, enthusiastic and want to make a significant contribution to a growing and exciting company, then we want to hear from you. Please include in your covering letter a summary of your relevant experience and your salary expectations.
In return we offer a competitive salary, exciting career opportunities, the ability to work flexibly, a benefits allowance, Employee discount and assistance programme, as well as 28 days basic holiday plus bank holidays and contributary pension scheme.
