Your mission
You are the owner of our IT at OKAPI:Orbits. Servers, end devices, network, Microsoft 365, security and backups are yours. That means you don’t just solve problems when they occur, you also make sure they don’t happen in the first place. You spot patterns, plan capacity and replacements ahead of time, and build systems that keep running even when nobody is watching. You get real room to shape things. There is a framework of security policies and budget alignment with the management, but within that framework you decide what our infrastructure looks like today and what it should look like tomorrow. You are supported by an IT apprentice, whom you guide professionally. He is based at our location in Braunschweig and you in Munich, so someone is on site at both places. In IT this matters: hardware is handed out and repaired in person, and many things are fastest to sort out right at the device. Your workplace is therefore the office. Working from home is possible by arrangement.
Your tasks and responsibilities
- Servers and infrastructure: You run our Ubuntu servers and the services on them, such as GitLab and SonarQube, and you think in lifecycles instead of firefighting
- Strategic planning: You plan hardware and server landscape for the long term and decide what we procure, replace or rebuild, and when
- Proactive operations: You set up monitoring, patch processes and capacity planning so that problems become visible before they cost anyone their workday
- End devices: Procurement, setup and operation for Windows, Linux and macOS, with standardized processes instead of one off solutions
- Network and security: Network, VPN, and the implementation and further development of our IT security policies
- Microsoft 365 and Intune: Administration of Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange, Teams and SharePoint, as well as device management via Intune
- Backup and recovery: You develop backup strategies and recovery processes and test them regularly, because a backup only counts once the restore works
- Mentoring: You develop our apprentice further and pass on knowledge without doing everything yourself
- Documentation: You document systems, decisions and processes so that the knowledge stays in the team
Your profile
Must-have
- An IT apprenticeship or degree (e.g. IT specialist for system integration, computer science) or comparable proven experience
- 2 to 3 years of professional experience in which you did not just maintain systems but took responsibility for them: You have planned infrastructure, made decisions and made sure outages don’t happen in the first place
- A proactive way of working: You look for the root cause instead of the next workaround, and you raise things before they are on fire
- Ownership and decisiveness: You can justify decisions and costs in a clear and traceable way, including to the management
- Solid Linux knowledge, preferably Ubuntu: server and desktop, shell scripting, package management
- Networking basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN configuration (e.g. WireGuard, OpenVPN)
- IT security: patch management, access rights, system hardening
- Microsoft 365 and Intune across Windows, Linux and macOS
- Hardware experience: procurement, setup and maintenance of end devices
- Willingness to work mostly on site in the office
- English at B2 level or higher, because our internal communication and documentation run in English
Nice-to-have
- Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Ansible or Terraform)
- Experience running Docker in production
- Experience guiding apprentices or juniors
- German at B2+ level, helpful for authorities and external service providers, but not a must
- Startup or scale up experience, where you don’t just administer but help shape things
Why us?
More than ten thousand active satellites orbit above us, and there are more every year. We build the software that keeps them from getting in each other’s way. Satellite operators, authorities and space agencies worldwide use our solutions for space traffic management and collision avoidance. And you are the reason it all works. Without a stable, secure infrastructure there is no software, and without software there is no collision warning. You don’t just keep operations running, you build the foundation for sustainable spaceflight. With us you get the chance to set things up properly from the start and to think long term, instead of just managing what others left behind. And because we are an office team, you sit where things happen instead of managing them from a distance.
What you can expect:
- Flat hierarchies and real autonomy. You shape your own domain without layers of approval.
- Primarily on-site in Munich, with the option to work from home occasionally
- Flexible working hours. No core hours, results over presence.
- Dedicated training budget for courses, certifications, and conferences
