Description
Qwaltec is in the business of ensuring mission control, ground segment, launch, and spacecraft operations are safe, efficient, and cost effective. We are an established women-owned small business making a difference with our commitment to the mission, our customers, and our team members. Qwaltec provides a great working environment for self-starters looking to learn, innovate, and grow with the company. Our core values of integrity, respect, excellence, teamwork, and agility guide our business practice.
Qwaltec has an immediate opening for a full-time Business Development Director to lead growth across Department of Defense and national security markets, with particular emphasis on space-related missions. The ideal candidate brings established DoD customer knowledge, relationships, and capture experience. Candidates whose backgrounds also include NASA or other civil space agencies are encouraged to apply. This leader will shape capture strategy, expand customer and industry relationships, and build a disciplined, repeatable growth engine for a mission-focused small business.
We are looking for someone who is:
• An accomplished federal business development and capture leader with demonstrated success pursuing DoD opportunities; experience in defense space or national security space is especially valuable.
• Experienced in translating customer missions and acquisition priorities into qualified opportunities, effective capture plans, strong teaming strategies, and competitive proposals.
• Able to strengthen Qwaltec’s business development systems, CRM discipline, pipeline reporting, capture processes, and executive-level opportunity reviews.
The Business Development Director will contribute immediately to opportunity identification, customer engagement, capture planning, teaming, and proposal positioning across DoD organizations, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Air Force, Space Systems Command, and other defense and national security customers. Experience and relationships within NASA or other civil space agencies are also welcome when paired with the ability to lead and grow a DoD-focused pipeline.
Requirements
• Develop and execute a DoD-focused business development strategy aligned with Qwaltec’s capabilities, growth priorities, and target customers.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with government program offices, acquisition organizations, contracting officers, prime contractors, and industry teaming partners.
• Identify, qualify, and prioritize DoD and civil space pursuits across Qwaltec’s core markets, including space operations, mission control, technical training, and systems engineering.
• Lead capture activities, including customer and competitive analysis, win strategy, teaming, solution positioning, capture planning, and bid/no-bid recommendations.
• Maintain an accurate, actionable pipeline and CRM, with clear opportunity status, probability, milestones, next steps, ownership, and resource requirements.
• Lead recurring executive pipeline and capture reviews and provide fact-based recommendations on priorities and investment decisions.
• Support proposal development through customer insight, market intelligence, win themes, solution positioning, and coordination with technical and proposal leads.
• Develop white papers, capability briefs, presentations, and other customer-facing materials.
• Represent Qwaltec at targeted industry days, conferences, and networking events, including DoD, Space Force, and broader federal space forums.
• Collaborate with program managers, engineers, operations leaders, proposal support, and executive leadership to align pursuits with company capabilities, contract performance, staffing strategy, and growth priorities.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of progressive experience in federal business development, capture, government acquisition, or a closely related customer-facing role.
• Demonstrated experience identifying, qualifying, capturing, and supporting the award of DoD opportunities.
• Direct knowledge of DoD missions, customers, acquisition processes, and contracting environments, including experience with the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Air Force, Space Systems Command, or related defense organizations.
• Established relationships with U.S. Space Force customers, acquisition organizations, and industry partners.
• Ability to develop and sustain credible relationships with government customers, prime contractors, and teaming partners.
• Strong capture judgment, business writing, presentation, and executive communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and acquisition audiences.
• U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Active Top Secret (TS) or TS/SCI clearance.
• Established relationships across the U.S. Air Force, Space Systems Command, or other DoD and national security organizations.
• Civil space experience, including work with NASA, NOAA, or other federal science and space agencies.
• Experience supporting or working alongside programs at Peterson SFB, Schriever SFB, Buckley SFB, Los Angeles AFB, or other major space and defense locations.
• Experience with Shipley or a similar structured capture and proposal methodology.
• Familiarity with SAM.gov, GovWin IQ, FPDS, or similar opportunity and market-intelligence tools.
• Understanding of federal contract types and vehicles, including cost-reimbursement, firm-fixed-price, time-and-materials, and IDIQ contracts.
• Experience using AI-enabled research, analytics, or workflow tools to improve market intelligence, pipeline development, competitive analysis, or reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, political science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
